Frances-Marie Uitti (composer, performer) pioneered a revolutionary dimension to the cello by transforming it for the first time into a polyphonic instrument capable of sustained chordal capabilities (two, three, and four-part) and intricate multi-voiced writing through the use of two bows. She has collaborated with an extensive list of luminary composers and performers including John Cage, Giacinto Scelsi, Iannis Xenakis, Elliott Sharp, and Pauline Oliveros.

As part of the 5th-annual Chamber Music Month, a thematic series presenting experimental works from around the world and highlighting cutting-edge developments in contemporary performance practice, ISSUE Project Room will present a solo performance from Dutch cellist/composer Frances-Marie Uitti. This is just one part of a three-city tour. Uitti will present a diverse repertoire of innovative works for solo cello, spanning more than 50 years of modern and contemporary avant-garde history, including works by: Annie Gosfield, Lisa Bielawa, Rocco Di Pietro, John Cage, and György Kurtág, as well a new work by Uitti herself.
