Wibi has a unique way of making transcriptions. In the spirit of Liszt he looks at the possibilities of the instrument and in this tries to explore the boundaries of timbre, colour and technique to let the grand piano sound as orchestral as possible. In other words, how can you let the piano sound like a full orchestra instead of just an instrument with snares and hammers. Wibi is known as a transcription and Liszt specialist and receives queries from pianists from all over the world for his scores, his way of playing and technique.
The programme The Art of Transcription which Wibi will be playing is a programme consisting of transcriptions which illustrate various aspects of the piano itself and playing the piano. In Amor and Psyche Wibi has translated the age-old story into a 9-part composition. In this work he follows the story but also tries to explore the boundaries of timbre and expressivity in the piano. Colour, expression, devotion and melodiousness are key words in this work. Wibi’s performance at Carnegie Hall will be the American premiere of this work.
