Celebrate Collingswood with Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, presented by The Collingswood Shakespeare Company. Join Oscar Wilde in his visit with Walt Whitman as they watch this hilarious play.

Gerald van Wilgen is an ambitious multi faceted playwright, writer and director who doesn’t shy away from big ideas.
His recent play Quaerere (work-title) is an epic tale of three characters dealing with entitlements, destiny and self-determination. In Rites of Passage and Constant Revolution at the Rotunda at the University of Pennsylvania, he directs a divers group of artists and community participants to create new rituals and find their own voice.
For the Collingswood Shakespeare Company he has also directed William Shakespeare’s Winter’s Tale. He is the facilitator of a the Coffee & Shakespeare group that meets monthly at the Collingswood Public Library as well.
Gerald van Wilgen holds an MA from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and studied directing at the Walnut Street Theatre School in Philadelphia and the HB Studios in New York.

For several reviews on Perô (or Mysteries of the Night)

Perô (or Mysteries of the Night), an adaptation of the popular children’s book by French author Michel Tournier, will make its California debut at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in the Family Series on April 23 with two performances. This award-winning production from Speeltheater Holland of the Netherlands tells the story of Perô, a baker in a tiny Italian village with a broken heart. Perô loses the girl he has loved since childhood after she runs off with a flashy house painter. He stops baking and closes his bakery. Using puppets, actors, singers and live musicians, this charming tale of love comes to life.

Speeltheater Holland is a non profit touring theater company based in Edam in the Netherlands. Founded in 1976, the company has performed theater for children for more than 30 years.The company’s performances range in size from small plays using one to three actors as well as larger scale productions. Speeltheater Holland creates theater for children of all ages and sometimes for adults as well. The productions include the use of puppets combined with acting and other theatrical disciplines. In addition to developing and presenting performances, Speeltheater Holland also seeks to be a breeding ground for young (puppet) theater makers and a place where new forms of co-operation can be experimented with and cultivated.

Producers Whoopi Goldberg and Stage Entertainment (Joop van den Ende productions) brought the new Broadway musical, Sister Act to the Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway) with the opening night, last night (April 20, 2011).

Dood Paard, an Amsterdam-based theater collective without a director or set designer, performs REIGEN ad lib, a verbatim and uniquely contemporary staging of playwright Arthur Schnitzler’s Reigen (Full Circle, 1897). Scandalous during its time, Reigen was banned for more than 20 years, with only one unauthorized performance in Budapest in 1912. Performing on vintage mattresses, Dood Paard members are costumed in underwear and gaudy attire while sexual acts are intimated through stroboscopic projections of artist Marco Brambilla’s video Sync from Destricted (2006), a collection of short erotic films by various artists. This program is supported in part by public funds from the Netherlands Cultural Services.

Group Intelligence: a mass MP3 experience is a spectacular outdoor event about the origins of life and water scarcity. It is a new, outdoor, science and public art experiment. The audience downloads an MP3 track in advance or borrows one from Out of Hand. They all press play at the same time and are guided through an hour-long experience around themes of water scarcity and origins of life chemistry.

During the experience, participants will walk, run, solve problems, laugh, play and build something extraordinary together. How hard the audience works is up to each individual, but the diversity of the group is key. Each performance is limited to 300 participants, but everyone is invited to watch the experiment unfold. Group Intelligence is suitable for ages 12 and up. Audiences are highly encouraged to wear close-toed, sensible shoes.

For almost 15 years, the Lunatics has been performing ingenious theatre in all kinds of places throughout the world. From soggy Dutch marshland to sweltering jungles, from bustling cities to barren deserts, the most absurd locations have served as the Lunatics* fairytale stage. Bizarre imagery transports the audience to an adventurous world that is wild, hilarious and moving at the same time. Realistic situations are connected with inexplicable, logic with mystery. Nothing seems what it is. Various light and sound effects, unique objects and idiosyncratic yet identifiable characters combine in The Lunatics' performances to activate the imaginations of thousands. The locations are critical, as they provide a constantly changing backdrop that inspires the imaginations of both actor and audience; each story has not one, but hundreds of versions.

The dialogue with Lucinda Childs covers the underlying choreographic scores and fiendishly complex performances of the dancers. Radial Courses is based on three movement sequences in a constantly shifting, circulatory composition. In Interior Drama, five dancers conform to an apparently perfect system, moving in repetitive and hallucinatory patterns. Childs describes her own work as an "intense experience of intense looking and listening." Beutler's reinterpretations focus on the individual dancer's roles and actions within the group patterns, revealing parallel realities and the ritualistic qualities of both dances.

'1: Songs' is a dramatic solo performance in the style of a rock song-cycle that crosses rough terrain. Performer Sanja Mitrovic channels the final words of tragic female protagonists from the history of theater, including Antigone, Medea, and Gretchen, allowing their timeless cries of suffering to enter her body and distinctly contemporary voice. As she shouts, speaks, and sings, she violently shifts between characters, at times fragile, raw, calculating, or emotional. Created by director and choreographer Nicole Beutler, with electronic music by DJ/composer Gary Shepherd, 1: Songs asks us to reconsider the words of these classic literary heroines (and anti-heroines) in the here and now.

Nicole Beutler works with the tension between intense emotionality and cool calculation while also reflecting on the history of theater. How do we look at emotions - what moves us and what doesn't? How does the past resonate in our contemporary reality? These are issues that are at stake in Nicole Beutler's work. Always searching for new forms, she currently is drawn to working with existing texts or dances.

Nicole is a choreographer, curator and performer based in Amsterdam. Her work is situated on the threshold of dance, performance, and visual arts. She seeks to precisely articulate sense and experience through performances, installations, and books. Her performances are composed musically, and suffused with subtle humor. They are characterized by minimal stage sets and a focus on the performer as a human being.

Zachary Oberzan's play has him returning home after 20 years to recreate Jean Claude Van Damme parody movies he made with his brother, Gator, when they were younger. So kind of like "Be Kind Rewind," but good and sad and true.  The pair are currently estranged, and Gator suffers from drug addiction. “What began as a fairly academic exercise in videography became about re-establishing—it’s probably more accurate to say establishing for the first time—a relationship with my brother,” Oberzan told TDF.

Dutch choreographer Didy Veldman has a successful career as a free lance choreographer. Creating works for many of the world's leading dance companies. Trained in numerous techniques at the Scapino Academy in Amsterdam, she went on to dance with Scapino Ballet, Ballet du Grand Theatre de Geneve and Britain's Rambert Dance Company. She worked with international choreographers such as Jiri Kylian, Mats Ek, Ohad Naharin, Christopher Bruce and many others. She began choreographing in 1987, creating work for the repertoires of all three companies, as well as independently.

In 2008 Didy created 'Frame of View' for Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet in New-York. It is a re-staging of 'Track' for the Swedish Youth Company.

Amsterdam-based choreographer Aitana Cordero and New York-based Daria Faïn each present a work on this compelling shared evening.

In her first U.S. performance, Aitana Cordero confronts sculptural practice and offers new insights into multi-disciplinary perspectives. Recurring interests for Cordero are the encounter between bodies, intimacy, violence, and the protocols of theater.

Aitana Cordero studied different contemporary Dance Techniques including Martial Arts, Yoga, Alexander, Shiatsu, Ballet and Contact and Improvisation in Madrid, Brussels, Barcelona, Berlin and Amsterdam. A graduate in Choreography studies at the SNDO (School for new dance development), she also holds her Masters in Choreography and new technologies from Dance-Unlimited at the University of Amsterdam. Her dance pieces and video works have been shown in Madrid, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Brussels, Helsinki, Berlin, Antwerp, NY, Montevideo, Buenos Aires and Beirut among other places. She has given workshops and classes in different schools, Universities and venues in Madrid, Paris, London, Beirut and Amsterdam.

Dirk Denoyelle is one of the Flanders( the Dutch speaking half of Belgium) best known, most demanded comedians. Since 2001 he started to focus on bringing comedy tot companies and congresses. This has a lot to do with his education: Dirk graduated as a micro-electronics engineer at the KU Leuven in 1987. He then worked 2 years for the renowned micor-electronics research centre IMEC, after which he fulfilled military service and some years as a free-lance reporter. Since 1991 he is a profossional comedian.

Despite a mathematics background, Dirk is passionate with languages. He performs in Dutch, English, French, German, Spanish, Danish. And keeps on learning other foreign languages. This "deviation" has proven to be very useful when performing in international environments.

By 1969, Freek and his partner, Bram Vermeulen, did their first full evening show - Dutch Music & Comedy Show, Neerlands Hoop in Bange Dagen. Bram en Freek's songs, jokes and style were unique in Dutch cabaret and provided important commentary on issues of the day.
Since 1980, Freek de Jonge has concentrated his efforts on a solo career. He has written several books, and columns, appeared in movies, on radio, on television, written music and songs and performed numerous cabaret shows, including several traditional End of Year Conferences.

We see the bride when nobody's looking, we see her unconscious in the company of a man who's not the groom or is he? We see her while she's losing her clothes along the way, ending up with only the veil still in her hair accompanying her as a sweet ghost. What happened on what they say was supposed to be the happiest day of her life?
